Do you have a senior neighbor who seems isolated? Many seniors don’t have friends or relatives nearby whom they can rely on for help in everyday life, leaving them especially susceptible to depression, stress, and loneliness. However, you can step in and become a reliable source of support in their lives, thanks to these simple tips from blogger Meredith Jones of FineTimes.org.

Relaxation and Stress Relief

Your senior friends who don’t have a strong support network might need some time to unwind. Here are a few fun ideas to help them feel appreciated!

  • Senior Helpers notes that going for daily walks with your senior friends is a great way to get low-impact exercise.
  • It’s important that their living quarters are as comfortable as possible, so, if needed, help them find and hire a service professional to address any issues with the house, such as when they need air conditioner repair.
  • Help your senior loved ones start volunteering in your area.
  • Other ways to manage stress and facilitate good decision-making include deep breathing, eating healthy, and getting enough sleep.

Running Errands

You can make a notable difference in the lives of your senior friends simply by running basic errands for them.

Making Big Decisions

Do your senior loved ones need help with major legal or financial tasks? These resources are packed with tips on how to lend a hand.

  • Many seniors struggle to manage their finances. You can give close senior friends tips or put them in touch with a financial advisor.
  • You may have a senior friend who would benefit from professional caregiving services. This guide from A Place for Mom can help them make this decision.
  • If a senior neighbor is in need of round-the-clock care, it may be the perfect time to help them plan to move to an assisted living facility. One way to help is to go online and research what nursing homes are available in the area; be sure to check on details like pricing and what insurance is accepted.
  • If you know any seniors in need of low-cost legal support, this resource will point you in the right direction.

Seniors who do not live near their families often need lots of help in their everyday lives, but they might not necessarily know who to ask for assistance. By offering support to seniors in your community, you can make a positive impact in their lives.

  1. Good Morning dear friend Lynda,

This is a very good article on how to support Senior Neighbors, but need not be a Senior Neighbor, but all those whom you come across. And by God’s grace, I don’t have any problems with my age and seniority.

My nature is different in relation to others. I don’t like giving trouble to others as long as manage myself, even my family members. I spend my time taking my pet dog for as many walks as possible, cooking food for her, feeding her, washing her dishes, weekly twice giving baths to her, etc. She is my very good friend and loves me so much. And I stopped going out leaving her in the house. I skipped attending parties, visiting my relatives, and all such activities.

My good wife understands this and very well cooperates in carrying out such responsibilities on my behalf. So much to write, but I want to be more laconic.

Sorry for causing inconvenience by writing all this.
But because I know you have patience in reading what I write.

Once again thanks for this useful article.

God bless you and your family added with my blessings.
